Have you ever felt as though feeling pain being felt someone else? Your feelings may be right. A study using brain imaging shows that some people have the ability to feel the pain suffered by others.

By using brain imaging techniques MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), researchers from Britain found evidence that people who say they experience pain as other people in fact do so.

From the MRI examination is known, activity in the brain that functions feel the pain increases when a person sees another in pain or injured. The ability to feel pain is also called the functional pain.

"People who have functional pain experience feeling physically sick even though he was not hurt or illness," said Dr Stuart Derbyshire of the University of Birmingham, one of the researchers in this study.

To further Derbyshire conducted a study to find out whether people who are able to feel pain the same function also has a response when he saw pictures of people injured.

In his research he asked for 108 volunteers to watch some of photographs of people in pain situations, such as athletes who suffered injuries during the game or the person being injected. Nearly a third of participants claimed they were not only experiencing emotional reactions but also seemed to feel the pain as shown in the picture.

Based on MRI results are known the change of blood circulation in the brain and brain areas that respond to pain are also more active when the respondent looking at photos of people in pain situation. Also note also that the activity of the brain that function in terms of emotion seemed more active.
